The NUS DSC 2008 Annual Seminar was held on 28th April 2008 at CRC Auditorium, MD11
National University of Singapore. This year’s seminar touches on the topic of Inflation; against a backdrop of growth.
We had a line up of distinguished speakers gracing our seminar. Our first speaker was Prof Sam Ouliaris who is an Associate Professor in the Department of Business Policy, NUS Business School. Our second speaker was Mr Leong Tze Hian who served as honorary consul of Jamaica and is also a regular writer for the Online Citizen and the Straits Times and our third speaker was Mrs Josephine Teo. Mrs Teo is a Member of Parliament for the Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC as well as the Assistant Secretary-General for the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC).
Prof Ouliaris described to us on the Sg economy in recent years and how prices and inflation have evolved to what they are. Mr Leong then discussed on the societal effects of inflation and the ripples from the ground. Mrs Teo who wrapped things up by discussing on the government’s role in times of inflation and the policies and measures in place to tackle the problem.
After the presentations from the different speakers, we had a lively Q & A session moderated by Lim Po Ben who is the current President of NUS Economics Society. It was such an exciting banter that the seminar streches 1 hour past the scheduled timeslot!!
